Your Training Season Saviour

Spring is calling and race season is fast approaching. Whatever you're training for, the best sessions have a pint waiting for you at the end.

We’ve mapped out some of our favourite scenic 5k routes that finish with a refreshing Lucky Saint at the pub. Training never tasted so good.

London

What better way to see the sights of the big city than a circuit round Regent’s Park and pitstop on Primrose Hill. The infamous route of the Lucky Saint Run Club. And where better to finish than at our very own pub, The Lucky Saint. Come grab a pint and say hello.

Route:

  • Begin at The Lucky Saint Pub.
  • Enter Regents Park through Park Square Gardens and head north up The Broad Walk.
  • Pass the east side of London Zoo and continue until you cross over Regent’s Canal.
  • Turn left at the road before crossing right and heading up Primrose Hill (don’t forget to take a quick breather and admire the views of the city)
  • Head back down south on the other side of the hill, back towards the canal.
  • Cross the road and turn right before crossing over Macclesfield Bridge.
  • Turn right and follow the Outer Circuit road all the way round until you get back to Park Square Gardens.
  • Make you way over to The Lucky Saint Pub for a refreshing pint.

Manchester

Another Lucky Saint Run Club route, this time following the River Irwell and finishing with a pint at the popular New Century Hall. Fancy a post-run snack too? Not to worry, there’s plenty to offer here. From pizza to sushi, New Century Hall have you covered.

Route:

  • Begin at New Century Hall.
  • Leave the square and head left along Corporation Street.
  • Turn right into Fennel Street and then head briefly left before crossing over the river via one of the bridges.
  • Cross over Chapel Street and head along Greengate, past the Sainsbury’s local on your right.
  • Head down the steps on New Bridge Street and turn left upon reaching the river.
  • Follow the river all the way along, crossing over Broughton Bridge.
  • Head up to Adelphi Footbridge to turn back on yourself.
  • Follow the route back the way you came along the other side of the river.
  • Head back to New Century Hall and finish with some well-deserved pints and food.

Brighton

Nothing beats a run along the beach. Enjoy the crisp Spring air whilst you take in the views of Brighton’s famous seafront. Stretching through Hove, Brighton and Kemptown, this route lends itself to various options of places to stop.

Route:

  • If heading from west to east, begin on the green at Babble in Hove.
  • Follow along the track, with the beach on your right.
  • Keep an eye out for some of Brighton’s famous sights, including Hove Lawns, the Upside Down House, the i360, the old pier and the new pier.
  • Shelter Hall is a great place to stop along the way for a bite to eat and a pint.
  • Head on towards Kemptown, where your finish line saviour awaits you at Bison Beach Bar.

Cornwall

A slightly more challenging route, but the views make up for it nonetheless. Starting and finishing at The Watergate Bay Hotel (a great place to park the car if you’re not local), this is an excellent choice for embracing the best of England’s coastline.

Route:

  • Begin at The Watergate Bay Hotel car park.
  • Head along the S.W Coast Path, taking in the coast views on your right (don’t forget to stop for a picture at Lucky Elephant Rock)
  • Continue along the path until you reach Watergate Road.
  • Take a right and then right again to get back on the S.W Coast Path.
  • Enjoy a breather whilst you take in the views and explore the Cathedral Caverns hiking area - don’t miss the Whipsiderry Mermaid Pools on the north side of the peninsular if you catch the tide at the right time.
  • If you’re feeling energised, extend the route slightly and head further along the peninsula to Travelogue Head on Porth Island.
  • Make your way back along the same route to The Watergate Bay Hotel, ready for your pint.

Oxford

Explore the River Thames as it winds through central Oxford. Loop through the most scenic areas of the city, following a mix of river paths, quiet roads and stretches of greenery. This route starts and finishes at one of Oxford’s most loved pubs, The Head of the River, where you can enjoy a pint of Lucky Saint post-run.

Route:

  • Begin at The Head of the River.
  • Cross south over Folly Bridge onto Jubilee Walk and head west, keeping the river on your right.
  • Follow the path along the river until you reach Edgar George Wilson Memorial.
  • Take a left and drop down onto the path that hugs Bulstake Stream.
  • Keeping the stream on your right, follow this path until you reach Electric Road.
  • Head south on Electric Road, all the way down until you get to a path called Devil’s Backbone.
  • Follow Devil’s Backbone over Hinksey Stream and Hinksey Lake.
  • Turn left and then immediately right onto Lake Street.
  • When you reach Abingdon Road, take a left and then the first right (just before Eastwyke Ditch).
  • Continue along this path to the main River Thames.
  • Turn left to go past the University Oxford Boathouse and Queen’s College Spots Ground.
  • Make your way back up to Folly Bridge, where your pint of Lucky Saint awaits you at The Head of the River.
